Darrell Hensley
Darell Hensley has been a cornerstone of the West Virginia and Northeast ski industry for decades, bringing exceptional skill, dedication, and passion to the sport. He arrived in the Canaan Valley area in the mid to late 1980s and quickly became an integral figure in the skiing community.
Initially drawn to the area as a climber, Darell found himself learning telemark skiing to navigate the snowy terrain during winter climbs. This adaptation marked the beginning of a lifelong journey in skiing that has had a lasting impact on West Virginia’s snow sports culture.
In 1990, Darell joined Whitegrass Ski Touring Center as a ski instructor, embarking on a career that would establish him as a leader in ski education. Over the course of 20 years as a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA), he achieved the prestigious level of Telemark Examiner, serving in this role for

12 years. As a member of the Eastern Demo Team and a Division Clinic Leader, Darell became an "instructor of instructors," helping countless ski professionals hone their craft.
Darell’s influence extended beyond Whitegrass. He served as Technical Director at Timberline, Ski Patrol Director, and Assistant Ski School Director at Canaan Valley Resort. Darrell also coached the Canaan Valley - Timberline Junior race team in the early to late 2000s. His leadership and technical expertise left a profound impact on colleagues and students alike, inspiring generations of skiers to improve their skills and embrace the joy of the sport.
Darrell's contributions to the skiing community, both on and off the slopes, have been monumental in promoting snow sports throughout West Virginia and beyond. His legacy lives on in the countless memories, photos, and stories that celebrate his remarkable career and his enduring influence on the skiing world.
